Ultimate is a fast moving team sport enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players the world over. Although frequently compared to sports like Soccer and American Football,
Ultimate has some unique features that set it apart. To begin with there are no referees. The players on the pitch enforce the rules and the spirit of the game.
Ultimate is played with a flying disc - probably slightly larger than you'll have thrown as a child.
To compete at the highest level ultimate players require speed, agility and endurance. Yet beginners find the game easy to learn and play. Grab a disc and discover why many belive that this is the Ultimate team sport.
The game is made up of two teams of seven, and is played on a football pitch thats slightly narrower than a football pitch (100m by 37m). The last 18 m at either end of the pitch are the endzones. A goal is scored when you successfully throw the disc to a member of your team who is standing (more likely running) in the endzone.
Players cannot run with the disc, once they have caught it they must come to a stop. A team can only move the disc by throwing it from player to player. The defending team takes possession if the disc touches the ground or by making an interception. The game is a non contact sport and often men and women play alongside each other.
The winner is the team to reach a pre determined number of goals.
