- 09/07/2005 - Final day - and after a big party last night on a beach overlooking an industrial port, we spent the day in the stadium watching the finals from the other divisions and cheering on the British teams. Full results will be up on the tournament website (www.eucc2005.org). We saw Bliss lose the women's final, but Clapham won in the Open division. They also won spirit (ultimate's fair play award), as did the Leeds women. Along with strong finishes by Ltd & BAF in the Mixed, the British teams had a great week.
We're all feeling a lot more positive today - the sun's out again, all the people here are friendly and we'll have loads of memories to look back on... yeah Top 4!
- 08/07/2005 - Our final game of the week, the 3/4 play-off, a single match to decide the Bronze medal. We played Karlsruhe's Colorado, a team we beat in our pool earlier in the week. It was hot, so was the ultimate - loads of people on the sideline, including plenty of other GB players, but unfortunately it didn't work out for us.
Colorado took an early lead, and it felt like a while before we really got into the game. Everyone on Ltd fought hard, but though we got to grips with their fast offense and our larger team was beginning to tell towards the end, we ran out of time and Colorado took the bronze medal. For the first time this week everyone was playing, so we didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but you can find some from the game at www.tom-styles.co.uk.
Right now we're all really down - it's such a shame to end the week with two losses, but we have to remember that a 4th place finish in the club's first international tournament is beyond what we really could have expected. It just feels disappointing that we were in both of our final games, fighting hard against great teams, but come away with no medal.
The Mixed final took place this evening - we all went along to watch it (though it was disappointing not to be involved!). Friselis eventually came back to beat UFO 21-20 - we have to admit that both teams were very athletic, talented and disciplined, and deserved their medals.
- 07/07/2005 - Wow. First game this morning, a Quarter Final against the home team, Endzonis - the crowds and press were out, but so was our D... Loads of pressure, a tight game, great spirit, and we come out on the right side of a 17-14 scoreline! We've got some of our photos here, there's a report in the tournament newsletter, and some more photos on the tournament site.
Then this afternoon a semi against the (so far) unbeaten Friselis, from France. They score first with a swilly hammer that just stuck in the guy's hand - no problem, that was just luck. Then they do it again. And again - okay so it's skill. We begin to adjust, and fight hard all the way. The Ltd women start doing a great job of shutting down their endzone cutters, but in the end we just don't have time to get back on terms. You can see our photos from the game, see the offical photos on the EUCC site, or visit the external site www.tom-styles.co.uk for more images.
Final score was 17-14, but Ltd are proud with the way we played against the toughest opposition so far. They'll be in the final against UFO tomorrow, while we've got a rematch with Colorado in the Bronze medal game. Still hopeful of bringing home some reward for all our hard work.
- 06/07/2005 - Tough game against Colorado, from Karlsruhe. They're in the running for the Quarters like us, and we pulled off a very satisfying 17-11 win. See photos here. Along with other results, that means we're guaranteed second spot in the pool, with one game still to come. After an early loss, Ltd is coming together well.
Disappointing but meaningless loss to JetSet from Leuven (Belgium) in the afternoon (photos here)- good news is that results in the other pool mean we can't meet BAF 'til the final. Katie got hit in the head early on, that seemed to shake everyone - paramedics came to take her back to the hotel, happily she's fine now. Our quarter tomorrow is against the hosts, Endzonis...it'll be tough with all their support.
- 05/07/2005 - Two more pool games today, and the weather's taken a distinct turn for the worst. We must be more used to the wind and rain than everyone else though, as we won both games! 17-13 against the Irish team Throwin' Shapes (photos here), then a good win in the afternoon over DISConnection from Freiburg, 17-08 final score. Photos are here.
That leaves us second in our pool behind UFO. Top four go through to the quarters, so we're pretty much playing for an easier route to the final. Two more hard pool games tomorrow, though.
- 04/07/2005 - Early start for a game against KFK from Copenhagen. Close, tough game, good spirit and, even better, we came out on top 17-13 for our first win in Europe! See some photos from the game.
This afternoon we met another British team, Northern Fried Hicks. A really tight first half, 9-8 to us. By now the wind had picked up, and the heat from the artificial pitch was making it interesting - but Ltd pulled away to win 17-9... Photos here.
We're well placed in the pool now, and looking forward to two more games tomorrow - the weather's still fantastic, it's great to meet all the different teams, and Ltd having a great time!
- 03/07/2005 - Beautiful weather for our first day of international ultimate! We played UFO from Tampere in Finland - another new team. Unfortunately they were very quick and adapted to the higher pace of the game sooner than Ltd did... Final score was 17 - 11 to UFO, but we're still pretty happy with our play against a team sure to be in the mix for medals later in the week. Some photos from the game.
In the evening we all went to the show pitch for the opening ceremony: samba drummers, balloons, a few short speeches from the tournament director and the Mayor of Rostock, then an Open Division show game between Ragnarok & the Jack'Suns. The Danes ran away with it a bit, so we left early for dinner. Two games tomorrow, first one at 9 AM, so got to be up early.
- 02/07/2005 - Pretty much the whole team arrived with no problems - all met up at the hotel in Rostock, enjoyed the late evening sun, cold drinks, friendly staff & good food. Looks like we've struck gold with the accommodation!
Early night for everyone though, as first game is 11 AM tomorrow...
- 29/06/2005 - Watch this space, we will update as often as we can.
